Lahaina town to host annual Halloween on Thursday | News, Sports, Jobs

The annual Halloween festivities in Lahaina town are set for Thursday afternoon and night with the 40th annual Keiki Parade, entertainment and costume contests at Campbell Park, trick-or-treating and pineapple carving at businesses and Front Street from Baker to Prison streets closed to vehicular traffic from 3 to 11 p.m.

Families planning to participate in the 4:30 p.m. parade should meet at the Outlets of Maui near the clock tower by 4:15 p.m. The parade ends at Wharf Cinema Center, where participants can walk across the stage in Campbell Park to showcase their costume and receive a ribbon and goodie bag of special treats.

Rotarian Joe Pluta, who has served as the parade’s master of ceremonies for 40 years, was unanimously selected as this year’s grand marshal. He will be joined by Maui fire and police units, the 120-member Lahainaluna High School marching band and director Myron Carlos, and Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino.

The keiki parade is presented by the Rotary Club of Lahaina, LahainaTown Action Committee and the county’s Office of Economic Development.

There also will be trick-or-treating from the Outlets of Maui to Front Street restaurants and shops through 505 Shopping Center.

From 5 to 10 p.m., Campbell Park will feature entertainment, a keiki dance party, games, face painting, food, live art installations and official Halloween in Lahaina T-shirts for sale.

At 6:30 p.m., the annual adult costume contest will begin, with participants walking the stage until 7:30 and winners announced at 8:45. The grand prize is $1,000, sponsored by Honu Seafood & Pizza and Frida’s Beach House. Participants can register in advance at Honu Seafood & Pizza or in Campbell Park on Halloween night. The contest is limited to the first 50 entries.

Halloween activities in establishments around town, which begin at 5 p.m., include:

• The Wharf Cinema Center, wharfwide trick-or-treating, face painting, balloon twisting and live music.

• 505 Shopping Center, trick-or-treating and a pineapple-carving contest.

• Lahaina Cannery Mall, from 5 to 8 p.m, trick-or-treating and photos with Frankenstein; meet and greets with Cruella de Vil, Maleficent and Scooby Doo and the gang; face painting and balloons. A keiki costume contest is set for 6 p.m.

Transportation to the festivities will include a Roberts Hawaii Halloween Express shuttle from Kihei and Wailuku locations. Each one-way ride is $10 per person.

Pickup locations are at the Kihei Aquatic Center, War Memorial Gym in Wailuku and the Prison Street parking lot in Lahaina.

The pickup schedules for rides to Prison Street parking lot in Lahaina are 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. from Kihei Aquatic Center and 6:30 p.m. from War Memorial.

The return trips from Prison Street parking lot leave for the Kihei Aquatic Center at 9 and 11 p.m. and War Memorial Gym at 10:30 p.m.

The Maui Bus also will offer extended service for its Westside Kaanapali and Napili Islander routes.

Through Sunday, Lyft is offering discounts of $5 off riders’ next two Lyft LUX or Lyft XL rides with promo code “MAUIHALLOWEEN.”

Police will be increasing DUI enforcement on Halloween, including checkpoints, and will have more than 80 officers committed to the event.

There also will be no parking from 3:30 to 11 p.m. Thursday:

• Front Street from Baker to Prison streets.

• Dickenson Street from Front Street to the Baldwin House parking lot.

• Lahainaluna Road from Front Street to Wainee Street.

• Papalaua Street from Front Street to the Lahaina Center.
