Inter Miami sell out 2024 season tickets ahead of Lionel Messis first full year in MLS

Publish date: 2024-04-18

Inter Miami have sold out of their season tickets for the 2024 MLS regular season — just two weeks after the end of the 2023 campaign.

Fans of the team will still be able to purchase single-match tickets, which will be available once the 2024 MLS regular season schedule is released.

Miami announced in September that the 2024 season tickets have nearly doubled in price, for what will be Lionel Messi’s first full year with the club.

Messi joined Miami on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer and his arrival saw the club’s tickets skyrocket in price. Miami’s temporary ground, the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, was also expanded from 19,000 fans to 21,000 to accommodate the new demand for tickets.

For Messi’s debut, the Leagues Cup game against Cruz Azul on July 21, the lowest-priced ticket on the secondary market was $1,294, while the most expensive front-row midfield seats sold for $23,737. Before the 36-year-old’s bow, supporters could attend a Miami game for as little as $29.

Though prices did fall after Messi’s debut and not every game at the DRV PNK Stadium was a sellout, average ticket costs remained high ahead of Miami’s controversial announcement about the 2024 season.

Since Messi’s arrival, Miami have added fellow former Barcelona stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba but were still eliminated from MLS playoff contention last month, with two matches remaining in the regular season.

Messi did, though, help Miami to the Leagues Cup title, contributing 10 goals and one assist in seven matches in the competition. He also won his record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or last month for his contributions over the past year.

Messi mania has struck Miami

Messi’s arrival in Miami, and generally in the U.S., was one of the year’s biggest stories in all of sport. And the Argentina captain came to play.

Before signing Messi, Inter Miami were a rudderless club, languishing at the bottom of the MLS standings. Messi scored 11 goals and added eight assists in his first 11 games in Inter Miami’s pink strip. He led the club to their first-ever title, the inaugural Leagues Cup trophy, which pitted MLS sides against their Liga MX counterparts.

Along the way, Inter Miami became a must-see product. Despite exorbitant season ticket increases for next season, Inter Miami matches will remain among the most sought-after experiences in American sports. In 2024, Messi is expected to play alongside his former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez — another global football star — as Miami enters next season as a contender to win the MLS Cup.
